Since we watched The Little Shop of Horrors, here's a photo of Dame Helen Mirren at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show holding a carnivorous plant named N. 'Helen' after her.
It's a Nepenthes, which can produce the largest traps out of all the carnivorous plant genera, some large enough to eat rats and other stuff that size. However, eating a rat actually gives the pitcher indigestion. There are some gross out photos of half digested rats in nepenthes traps posted in my circles from time to time, the stink is horrific. They are basically pitchers filled with digestive fluid, like a stomach. They are passive and don't open or close, but once something falls in the pitcher, it can't get back out. Venus Fly traps are tiny by comparison.
For the past 25 years I've grown and bred carnivorous plants. Almost all of my plant nerd friends have seen the original Corman movie and some prefer it to the musical, especially the tough guys who don't like musicals.
It was kinda surprising to hear Gala say almost none of her knowledgeable movie friends are familiar with the original.
And this is just testing the forum to see how it works.
